Need a hand? Here's how to get started and where to get help.

Getting started

  1. Open Settings in the app.
  2. Tap Fill in Groq (free) to use Groq's free tier, then tap Get key → to create a free API key.
  3. Paste the key into both the transcription and summarisation API key boxes.
  4. Go back, create a new meeting, and tap record.
  5. When you're done, transcribe and then summarise to get your minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts. You only need an API key from a provider of your choice.

Is it free?

The app itself does not charge for transcription or summarisation. You bring your own provider key; some providers (such as Groq) offer a free tier, while others charge per use. The app shows cost estimates to help you choose.

Where are my recordings stored?

On your device. Each meeting is a folder of plain files (audio, transcripts, minutes) that you can browse in the iOS Files app. Nothing is uploaded to any server we run.

Can I use OpenAI / Anthropic / a self-hosted server?

Yes. Open Summary works with any OpenAI-compatible transcription endpoint and with Anthropic or any OpenAI-compatible chat endpoint — including OpenRouter, a self-hosted Whisper server, or Ollama.

Recording while the screen is locked?

Yes — Open Summary supports background recording, so it keeps recording when the app is backgrounded or the phone is locked.

How do I export my minutes?

From the minutes view you can share or copy them as Markdown or PDF. You can also export an entire meeting (or all meetings) as a ZIP bundle.
